-illuminations on an alan watts talk-

The ordinary everyday consciousness
that we have leaves out more
than it takes in.

So there is more to everything right now
than the white flakes circling
around the halo of streetlights.

Who are you? Who are you really?
You reading these words right now
is it snowing where you are

Inside or outside your vessel.
What does snow mean to you?
Is it a dark winter of thoughts

Or a wonderland? Do you make
these decisions yourself?
I can’t write these on paper anymore.

Nothing goes fast enough
I don’t know who I am again
Well that’s the thing to find out

What we are carefully taught to ignore
Is that every one of us is an act of
A performance of, a manifestation of

The works.
What you would call god, the universe
Every one of us is that but we are pretending

We aren’t. We are taught to forget this
And we are separated from
The snow in the sky

Of itself so, is the Taoist expression
For nature. It happens without a push.
You are the same as nature.

So is it okay that my nature tells me
Not to go into work
The roads are too snowy and no one is awake.

Now darling, play.
Play on demand, play on demand.
I was put here to do this and I’m so tired.

There’s enough snow to make angels
But I don’t want to play anymore
This is all I have strength for

This is my play, does it sound fun?
I imagine snowmen and children laughing
Their way down hills on sleds.

Lights still hang from eaves of houses
And the new decade is tomorrow
Resolutions are so last decade

And I feel like I have no more skins,
No more changes left in me.
I am who I am. This is me now.

Do you understand that being a real mixed up
Human being is a real manifestation of nature?
That it is something like patterns on the waves

Or like seashells. My goodness, isn’t that
Gorgeous? There is not an aesthetic fault
In it anywhere. It is absolutely perfect.
